Evaluating Websites

This class will be offered to teachers at all levels in two one-hour sessions

Focus: Locating and Accessing Information

Learing Outcomes: Participants will learn strategies to share with students to help them critically evaluate websites. Hoax websites and hate websites will be exposed as criteria, such as objectivity, authority, currency, are determined and simple,

concrete strategies taught to help all of us find, use, and evaluate

information found on the internet.

Instructors: Steve Koelker and Connie Burns

Dates and Location: Monday, November 6th and 13th, 2:30-3:30 PM

         in Room 225 @ SPHS

Minerva and Marvel

This class will be offered to any middle or high school level teachers for one hour and one session.

Focus: Locating and Accessing Information

Learning Outcomes: Participants will be able to access Minerva, the library’s online catalog, to conduct both simple and advanced searches, to locate library materials both in and outside of school. Instruction will also be given on locating lexiles in the catalog. Participants will also be able to access the thousands of safe, credible, authoritative, often lexiled magazines, newspapers, and reference books available free anywhere in the State of Maine through the online resources of MARVEL! Maine’s Virtual Library.

Instructors: Connie Burns and Dan Wolotsky on Wednesday, November 8th from 3-4 PM in room 207 at Mahoney  OR Janet Morelli on Thursday, November 30th from 2:10-3:10 PM in the   SPHS Library.

Accessing Your Work Files From Home

Description and Skills: If you have an internet connection at home and want to

access your work files, this is the class for you! Come learn about the new 

Netstorage Solution and leave with a new password so you can access your files from anywhere.

Instructors:  Steve Koelker on Tuesday, October 31st from 2:30-3:30 PM in room 207 @ Mahoney OR Jerry Hunter on Wednesday, November 1st from 2:10-3:10 PM in room 126 or 125 @ SPHS
